North Dakota Unemployment Wage Base to Increase to $27,900 for 2012

The Job Service North Dakota has announced an increase in the taxable wage base for 2011. The wage base will increase from $25,500 for 2011 to $27,900 for 2012.

Annual Increase Is Mandated by Law

This amount is set annually and is 70% of a statewide average wage.

The Job Service North Dakota has announced an increase in the taxable wage base for 2011. The wage base will increase from $24,700 for 2010 to $25,500 for 2011.

ND Taxpayers May be Absolved of Penalties for Late Filing

Due to the early April severe weather in North Dakota, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced recently that it will consider abating late filing and/or late paying penalties if taxpayers were unable to file by the April 15, 2010 filing deadline. Taxpayers who are assessed a penalty should do the following:

  1. Contact the IRS campus that issued the penalty assessment notice. The telephone number is listed on the notice.
  2. Identify themselves as a taxpayer affected by the severe spring storms during the period of April 1, 2010, to April 3, 2010.
  3. Request the abatement of associated penalties, based on reasonable cause criteria.

The Job Service North Dakota has announced an increase in the taxable wage base for 2010. The wage base will increase from $23,700 for 2009 to $24,700 for 2010. Tip of the Week: Minimum Wage Hikes Take Effect this Week

The federal minimum wage will increase to $7.25 on Friday, July 24, 2009. Therefore, all work performed after July 23, 2009 should be compensated at the higher rate. In addition, the minimum wage will also increase to $7.25 in the following areas: Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. ND Taxpayers Receive Extension of Time to File Returns and Pay Taxes

Due to severe storms and flooding in North Dakota on March 24, 2009, President Barack Obama declared the following counties a federal disaster area: Adams, Barnes, Billings, Burleigh, Cass, Dickey, Emmons, Foster, Grand Forks, Grant, Griggs, Hettinger, Kidder, LaMoure, Logan, McHenry, McIntosh, Mercer, Morton, Nelson, Oliver, Pierce, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Stark, Steele, Stutsman, Towner, Traill, Walsh, Ward, and Williams as well as the Spirit Lake and Standing Rock Indian Reservations. Therefore, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced recently that it will waive failure to deposit penalties for employment and excise taxes due after March 12, 2009 and before March 31, 2009 as long as the deposits were made by March 30, 2009. Also, affected taxpayers will have until May 15, 2009 to file most tax returns. State Minimum Wages to Increase

Several states have minimum wage increases effective for work performed after July 23, 2008. Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Virginia all have increases to $6.55 to match the federal minimum wage. The District of Columbia minimum wage increases to $7.55. Different minimum wages may be paid to certain classes of employees in some situations.
