Montana Labor Commissioner Keith KellyThe Montana Department of Labor and Industry announced recently that pursuant to Montana Code Annotated 39-3-409, the minimum wage for the state of Montana would increase from $7.35 per hour to $7.65 effective January 1, 2012.

Adjustment Must Be Calculated Annually

The law requires an adjustment to the minimum wage that must be calculated no later than September 30 of each year. The adjustment is tied to the US City Average Consumer Price Index (CPI) for All Urban Consumers for All Items for the 12 months ending in August. Since the CPI increased 3.8% from the previous year, an adjustment of $0.30 will be made to the minimum wage.
